If there is one person on this list that knows how to install 300zx brakes, it is Matt. For sure... ^_^

And if there's one person who knows how to bleed brakes, it's doug :welleffyoutoo:

Want to bet I triple-check caliper direction from this point forward :)

we got a bleeder!!!!
lots of sarcasm going around here! haha...
but matt, your brakes looked awesome man...
so I'm really looking forward to do mine sometime soon..
ok.. I have all the parts for the z32 conversion... rotors, loaded calipers, brakelines, and even sandpaper + glossy black 500degrees spray paint for looks but don't have z32 master cylinder...
I checked the websites and autozone for new parts, it's freaking $150....
I think I saw a tokico master cylinder on ebay one time but it was still $100....
so wondering if I should wait(wait til' the rims get here) and get z32 master cylinder with the whole swap later, or just keep the stock 240sx for awhile... I'm sure there is much difference...
halla....

I've never driven a car w/ the z32 MC, so I can't say how much of a difference it makes.

I can tell you that swapping the master cylinders is all of about a 10 minute job, so if you decide to change it later on, it's real easy.

aight guys~
finally.... my Z32 brakes are in~ little trouble cutting the dustsheilds..
but looks great~ and definately feels GREAT~ man.. I can't imagine how it would feel like with Z32 MC..
did you remove the dustsheild Matt? mine's cut and you can't see it until you take the rotors off..but I like to remove it one day..
so if anyone wants front rotors(only 9 months old), you can pick'em up anytime~
FREE~!!

I just cut the dustshield. The only way to remove it as far as I know is to pull the hub off, which I didn't feel like doing :)

cutting the dust shield is 10x harder then just removing one nut, slide off hub, and pull off dust shield.

hmmm i thought you were the z32 brake guru matt :P j/k bro.

angle grinder man. my dust shields were out of the way in about 20 seconds each side :)

one of my best tool purchases was a black & decker angle grinder from wal-mart for about $35. great for cutting away battery trays for intercooler piping, or for cutting the piping itself!

removing it is a lot cleaner. plus it's weight reduction y0!

theres like 3-4 small bolts, you just remove those, and wiggle off the dust shield, just like a steering wheel. yup, fuck cutting and shit.

im kinda lazy and dont really feel like drilling holes in any rotors...so any guess to how big the sentra spec v rotors are with the brembo upgrade?, its a 4 lug so think it would make things alot easier.

ummm, yeah, it won't work.

unless by some chance the rotors are IDENTICAL in every way, meaning width, diameter, etc.

you can't just put them in if they're "close enough"...remember, this is your braking system, probably the single most important one on your car :)

yeah i think the rotors are the same size in diameter but i was wondering if they were possibly either 26mm or 30mm,,,and if not how much mod work would it take for the spec v brembo caliper to fit with the brmbo rotor?

Ok, diameter may be the same, but you've still got two other things to make sure are the same:

-rotor thickness (i.e.; 26mm or 30mm for Z calipers)
-rotor offset from hub, basically the height of the rotor hat. if this isn't correct the rotor won't actually line up within the caliper.

Dude...just buy Z brakes. I did my Z32 front brakes for $400 total, and I overpaid by getting the rotors pre-drilled from heavy throttle, getting the lines from them for $70 instead of $40 from SPL parts, etc.

I've been over this time and again:
calipers - $150 from autozone, comes with all hardware and pads
rotors - $150 (guessing high here) for both from www.stranoparts.com
rotor drilling - $40 (on the absolute high side) from a local machine shop (or anyone with a drill press)
lines - $40 from splparts

It could be done much cheaper if you went with junkyard calipers and rebuilt them yourself, etc...

It doesn't matter one bit, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

On that note, it doesn't make a damn bit of difference if you run the 26mm vs. the 30mm ones either.
