Isn't there a drain plug on the bottom. I think it has a half inch drive on it.
If not you can drain it from the driveshaft insert/yoke at the back of the tranny.

cody, how did you wire the pin on the ecu labeled fuel pump terminal output control signal (104)? mine was wired crappily to a switched 12v source, so I'm thinking it's for the ecu to verify that the fuel pump is on...did you hook yours up or not? I have my gaskets and my bearings. pistons and rod bolts get here tomorrow, still need my crank collar...I don't have a tracking number for that yet though.
I still need to order head studs and a clutch, but those can wait a week or so, since I haven't started the machine work.
wiring is getting better, still need to pull the carpet out and put in sound deadening, and paint the engine bay...we'll see how it goes.

Got the dash bar thing back in, Jolene wanted to paint it orange and purple since I told her she could do it any color she wanted so ya...doesn't look too bad...just out of place lol.
Also finished the dynamat in the car, got most of the way up the firewall without removing the pedals or steering, and got most of the way up behind the heater since that's all pulled out right now.
wiring is really close to being done...I ran out of tape (my second roll lol) but everything is for the most part done, just the sensor wires for my gauges, and my coil power and like two oddball ground wires...should be done with that...maybe start paint next week?
Also, finally got around to wiring in my turbo timer that I've had just sitting around for ages...

Very nice! Never heard of the pistons before. I'm curious about the ability of the stock injectors. Ivjnow they are 370's but were you running them? You seemed to have nice afrs at high boost with a large turbo. Keep up the great work man I can wait for this thing!
wakotow
06-19-2010, 05:29 PM
I have the stock injectors bumped fuel pressure to 4 bar instead of 3 bar, and I was pushing 85% duty cycle...Actually I think that may have been what happened...I bumped my timing, and made enough power to lean out, cause detonation and kill my rings.
I'm only running 15 psi so...ya
I want to go to 740's and run more like 22-25 psi, that'll be screaming...

Any updates Andrew? I want to go hx35!!!! were did you get yours? Here is a little inspiration for ya

I got mine on ebay. There are two basic types of HX35 there's a 7 blade compressor and an 8 blade compressor basically the 7 blade spools slightly slower, but has more peak power possible, and the 8 spools faster but supports about 30-60 less horsepower but the 8 blade should still support about 450-475 if I remember correctly. I have the 7 blade and I usually have 15 psi around 3200-3500, and my compressor wheel is chewed up a little bit (looks like some sand went through it or something...so you should be just fine, responce wise, with the 7 blade...but just so you know. I got mine for about 250 shipped, but that was a year ago, they're more popular now, so keep your eyes open, and make sure to get one that is a genuine holset, a brand new holset is 900+ the listings for 300-500 new are just china replicas, and I have not heard anything good or bad about the replica holsets...the used ones are so cheap I opted to just get a good shape used one.

Andrew, thanks for the fast response. I'm also thinking of going back to the stock manifold. If so what the chances u can help me with the wastegate setup? Also the hx is vband right? 2.5" or 3"? I wanna help u on ur build man hit me up
wakotow
06-30-2010, 01:39 PM
I think it's a 2.5" vband, but I didn't realize that, so I bought a 3" and just welded it to the 2.5" vband, came out pretty nice, but that extra half inch would have made all the difference clearing the steering bar...so I would do the 2.5" vband and as soon as the steering bar is cleared, go to 3" I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible for me to go to 3.5 or larger without getting a diffrent manifold, there just isn't enough space...
what's wrong with your ebay manifold? too laggy?
I'm going to be gone this weekend at my dad's buddies shop in oregon getting all the machine work done, but next week you can come help, unless you want to come on friday and help me paint the engine bay...

Alright, it's been hot tanked for hours and hours, bored, pistons on the rods, crank collar installed, and broken exhaust manifold studs extracted. Also, on thursday I welded up some of the holes in the engine bay, mostly ones I created by cutting out stupid factory brackets (like the battery tray...who needs that piece of junk anyway, the battery should have come in the trunk...like a miata).
Tomorrow, bottom end assembled, tear into head, replace valve stem seals and look over everything...maybe some sanding in the engine bay.
Later this week, paint the block, paint the bay, slap the head on, put all the accessories on, finish fixing the over oiling issues with the head.
This weekend, put the beast back in and enjoy.

wakotow
07-05-2010, 06:54 PM
alright, I was a little ambitious with my goals...today I only managed to get the bottom end together...but it's there, the rings are a pain to get in the cylinders...and I had to modify the oil squirters as they contacted the new pistons...so all that is done, and I drilled and tapped the block for another oil drain from the rear of the head...
All in all, I doubt I'll have it running and ready by this saturday's meet (stinking close though)...but next saturday for sure I'll be there, maybe next tuesday at A&W I'll make it out.
veloce240sx
07-05-2010, 09:31 PM

07-06-2010, 09:05 AM

Those full race manifolds are nice but stinking expensive...what about lovefab, theirs are really nice too and more reasonably priced...If I ever go to top mount I'll probably get a 6boost, alot of people like them, and they are only about a grand, sometimes the guys on nico do a group buy, and you can get one for a little cheaper...

07-18-2010, 11:15 PM
well, it started...I have to fix the coil pack wiring...I have the relay through switched power, just not switched power that's also powered during cranking, so it tries to fire right as I let go of the key...so I figured out what I need to wire...easy, just frusterating...
next issue...I have noise on one of the cylinders...like a ticking, so it could be.
1. Wrong timing and valves are hitting the pistons (only on 1 cylinder? no sense)
2. Spun bearing (possibly, but how do you spin a bearing during cranking and a few seconds of running before shutting it down...it spun freely before I tried to start it...don't know...it doesn't sound like the spun sr20 bearing I heard last meet I was at)
3. Sticky lifter, might self correct, might not...
4. exhaust leak...I'll have to feel around for exhaust gas...I panicked too much when I heard the noise...
I sure hope it's the lifter...the other two mean total rebuild again...and I have no more money...so ya...
heads up, don't break and build your dd...too inconvinient to be down for months at a time...
Cody, I doubt I'll be needing any help tomorrow, just going to do a compression check, and shine a light down the spark hole and see if anything is hitting...
all that's left, after the motor runs, is the hood fender and bumper shell...we'll see I guess.

07-20-2010, 07:43 AM
I think we got it figured out...the ticking happens once every revolution, this eliminates valve issues (sweet). However, the oil pan has the tick (if I touch it while it's happening), so our guess is the longer rod bolts are contacting the baffle inside the oil pan, so we dropped the crossmember last night, and I'll pull the pan off tonight and get the baffle modified so it doesn't get hit anymore, then it should be good to go.
We did a compression check last night too, I was around 125 on all cylinders, and the rings haven't even begun to set yet...frigin awesome as well.

Yes I'm still running the hx35, once I have more fuel (probably 740's) I wanna put it up to 25ish psi and see what I get, I'm guessing 450+ I heard one sr20 was making 475 at 21psi or something like that...pretty crazy, the thing spools ultra fast too

yeah that 240 was for sale on zilvia.net. I was really thinking about going that route but I don't think that turbo will have enough for what I want. I am thinkg borg warner s366. but glad to see you got it running.

the hx35 is about as big as I can fit on the stock manifold...it'd be really hard to get anything bigger in there and have everything fit...if I went to a topmount then I'd love to do an hx40 or 50
I've also been toying with doing a compound setup, or something with a supercharger...but I have no money, and right now I can't argue with 15psi at 3500 rpm...so I'll wait till I'm done with school to do any extreme forced indection to the beast...

Andrew! I'm glad to see you're getting everything sorted on this beast. I can't wait to get back to reno and see everyone again.

Actually I might, some of the stuff I'm bringing is too bulky to be carried by one person. I'll be in town saturday the 14th.
Oh and today I picked up some 550 injectors and a greddy emanage ultimate for the RB... just need a new turbo I'll be able to chase you down :p

The driver side front strut tower was pushed toward the center of the car and the "frame rail" in the rear on the driver side was also pushed. All suspension arms needed to be replaced on the driver side as well. The body is all sorts of jacked. Let me see about pictures.
