Hi guys. It has been a while but i am in a predictament. As everyone knows I have a 95 240sx with the sr20det. Ok I thought I was out of gas...basicly the car starts, idles, but when I give it gas it dies. That is initially. After it dies it will more or less start again but it dies really fast. It will not stay running. I left it for 5 hours or so today and went back to it and added gas. It started immediatly and stayed running but then I could hear it "coughing and stumbling" and that is when i gave it gas and it died. Any ideas? Help.

could be a vacuum leak...check all the vacuum lines.

hey man whats up?
sounds like an air leak, maf, or a fuel pump going out.
check for air leaks, more then likely i/c, you always had probs with those
maf, run any dif with it unplugged
fuel pump, pressure test, hard to test if its 'sorta' working
where you at NV, CO, or (was it N or S) SC?

I am here in Vegas. It is actually stuck at one of the casinos. I am going back over to mess with it tommorrow hopefullly. I would have it towed...but man that is expensive.
When i went to leave the house at 1:00 it was acting up. But I gave it gas and let it sit there "warming up" until it drove fine. It was acting the same at first as it is now. I also ran it like normal (hard) and I really did not notice anything weird. That is why I am confused. I was wondering if it was the fuel pump but it is obviously getting gas.

well i normally run across american built cars where pumps will work sometimes and then be fine, then die. it seems most import ones just die. but there is always an exception. like i said its hard to test a fuel pump unless its dead. you gots a walbro? fuel pumps normally go out when they heat up...hmmm
its worse when its cold? maybe its your carburator?
problems that arent here and then not are a beeeactch.
if the plugs are really fouled it might make it hard to start and once the car warms up the plugs kinda burn off the deposits.
you could be running to rich when the car is cold. any black smoke when cold?
you ever gonna hang with the crew?

Could be your igniter . nissans tend to do that with the VG , CA, RB and SR's it dont like the hot temps and will go bad could be from the vegas heat over the summer . it would start but it wont run when they start going bad . or stop after it starts getting hot and it just gets worst after that .

A couple of other things...when it was having issues starting I could smell gas...
also I noticed condensation coming from the exhaust.
I am going down there this afternoon armed with tools. I am going to go through all of the intercooler hoses and vacuum hoses.
One other "funky" thing. For the last month the check engine light HAS been on. Yesterday when all of this started happening it went off. hmmmm? connection at all? Any ideas?
like the others said. either vaccume lines or fuel pump.

My 200sx does the same thing... since mine is manual, I just push in the clutch all the way, and tap, tap, tap on the gas [and you can feel the car starting to die] then just kinda slam on the gas.. and I can feel it gaining power.. then step off, and drive off...
It does that in the morning or when its been sitting for a while, I dont know if its because the car is cold or what.. but that is what works for me.

Ok update...so yeah found a leak allright. Something about when the hose clamp loosens enough for the pipe to flat out fall off of the intercooler tends to not make the car want to run. What a damn fool I am for not even looking down there first.
Thanks everybody. Well technically this car still has not ever stranded me. Knock on wood.

yah that would do it...stupid IC piping...mine use to do that all the time when i had my SMIC...thats why its almost a good idea to invest in the solid SMIC piping...instead of having all those piping held together with annoying rubber hoses
