Well if the motor is bad than replace it with one of the de's and just hope they arent bad either... Your still gonna need a harness, ecu, maf, distributer, coil if you just have an de engine and of course money to have someone swap it over... I got a 5 speed coupe with a de already in it and running if your serious about this I could go as low as $1500 straight body just minor dents and no cracks in the dash.

1. coupe > hatchback, end of story
2. most all s13 dash's or cracked
3. chris' car RUNS.
4. I hate to say this, but you're not going to find much help lately with getting people to work on your car. A lot of us are burned out from working on our own cars. add to that the fact that (no offense meant by this) you don't know anything about the car in general. I have no problem helping people out when they are capable of doing the work themself (i.e.; can do most of the work and just have me there for advice and as a spare set of hands)

amen. and the fact that your too damn fuckin picky with a limited budget is FUCKIN ANNNOOOOOYING!. no one minds helping anyone but like matt said you must be capable. if your not, the best bet is to take it to doug or another shop untill you have grounds on how an automobile/engine works.
where a beginner should start. www.howstuffworks.com
i didnt want to be a dick and post it first but thats how im sure most of the people here see things and your car situation. gl. get chris's car and call it a day. no used car is perfect no will it be near perfect especially with your price range. just not gonna happen. and when you get a used car. plan on putting money in it everymonth. thats the way shit is. reality.

The coupe runs the fastback doesnt. I just talked to that guy and the the hatch is backfiring out the intake and wont even run. I just offered my car for $1500 im not in a hurry to sell it nor do I give a shit. A 5 speed 240 with a ka24de no cracks in the dash and a clean body for $1500 I can keep it just the same. Im not gonna play games or bullshit over my my car you wanna pay $700 for my wheels and $1500 than talk to me if not dont even bother cause I will just go advertise them some where and sell them right away. Try and find a better deal....

AND reasins im bein picky because its my first car and all the cars i want are cheap so i want the car i want if i can find it, but all the cars im finding are peices for good deals. its not me thats extremely picky though its my mom since shes payin i just want a clean hatch or a cheap hatch.

The car in the ditch is NOT the car he's selling.
The ditch car has an SR20, soon to be front mount, and is a pretty quick repair.
The car he's selling is sitting behind doug's shop iirc.
EDIT:
clean hatch != cheap hatch.
The old mantra of: "reliable, fast, cheap...pick two" comes to mind.
EDIT2:
sorry about the repeated edits. We're not trying to be assholes, I swear. I'm trying to stop a kid who's not even spending his own money from making a big mistake. Would I buy a car that needs a new engine? Hell yes, but then again, I can replace the engine in a 240sx in about 6-8 hours MAX working by myself. Can you even change your own oil? If you answer no, odds are, no one on this board is going to help you because we don't want to do the work for you. We all have no problem helping (as has been stated numerous times) provided the owner of the vehicle can do most of the work and we're just there to help out, not do it for him/her (well, maybe if it's a her we'd do it all ;))

lol yea i can change my oil ^-^ and if i can get pics of the other car then i can probably check it out if its clean and hatch :D and i wasnt calling you an asshole because you explain yourself when you tell me no instead of just yelling like others do well again about that other hatch behind dougs shop if i can get pics or connection info on it i can check it out. and thanks for trying to stop me on buyin a peice... im just in a hurry to get a car so im trying to get the first thing that i find.
ima list the things i can do on a car to so i can let everyone know.
1. change a tire
2. change oil
3. change starter on a stanza :) im proud of myself for this one because its a ka24... e i think but might be de
4. take stuff out... like the interior stuff
5. point stuff out on the motor that eric tought me
6. take out sound system and i think that one will come in handy alot
so basically with me all you need to do is point it out and tell me what to do and ill be good in replacing that part or just takin it off.

Bad move. I say this with the utmost sincerity, and speaking purely from experience.
Story 1:
I fly out to california to buy a dodge stealth. Test drive it, all is well. Pay new owner, begin driving back to vegas. 30 miles or so outside of san diego, clutch goes out. No warning, no slipping, just boom...gone.
Shit. Lucky I have friends I can call who has a trailer. Get AAA to tow me back to san diego, 5 hours later, friend arrives w/ truck & trailer. Car gets towed back to vegas. A few days later (and a few hundred bucks for a clutch, plus gas money for truck/trailer) I'm back up an running.
Story 2:
I go to school in new york. I decide to buy a galant vr-4. I come across what seems to be a good one...in MINNESOTA. I fly out, car is good, I buy it. Car just had an engine rebuild. Compression checks out 100% across the board, leakdown test is perfect. Luckily I got this one home. 2 weeks or so after buying it, i'm driving around and hear a horrific noise, a loud crack/boom, and the car seizes. Shit. Tow the car back to our shop back east. Hmm, there's a rod sticking through the oil pan...that can't be good. Low and behold there's only about 1 quart of oil in the motor. Turns out the previous owner fucked up rebuilding the head. A few valve stem seals in cylinders 2&3 are just destroyed. Car has been burning oil since I got it. Not badly enough to smoke horribly, but I figured it's a new engine, why should I have to check oil level. I'm frankly surprised the car lived so long with so little oil in it. I figure it had probably been running for over a week with under 2.5 quarts of oil in it (total capacity of 4.3 quarts or so). I should also been mention that I have basically been driving this car to within an inch of its life every time I start it up.
Moral of the story: always be prepared to spend money after buying a car. When I buy a good running car I try to keep 10-20% of the cost of the car available for the inevitable stuff that will need fixing. With a "project" car/basketcase/call it what you will, prepare for the fact that you'll probably spend at least the value of the car getting it running.
I've got tons more stories of why it always costs more $$ than you planned. After having two seriously built high power cars of my own (galant [39x awhp, 12.2 @ 118 1/4 mile] and 240sx [350+rwhp]) as well as helping with the builds on many other fast cars (numerous DSM's, a few 3000gt/stealths, a fox body mustang, and a turbo honda) I've got more than a few.

agreeed with matt....everyones first car is fuckin gay unless your joel and save forever like i said theres nothing wrong with it. just dont fuckin come on here asking for help when you know damn well what you want and how clean it has to be and everything has to meet your criteria or else your mom wont get it. sorry man but thats fuckin bogus. if you know what kinda car you want and everything is perfect in your eyes i gurantee that car will be twice what your willing to pay right now. and if by chance its not something will give. 240s arent godsend good cars yes but not indistructable to which your making them out to be. 2 options. 1 be a man and wait till something comes around. or 2 be a complete knock off and get the first thing you see. your choice and matt is right its a bad move. whatever man. your choice. your eagerness is annoying and a waste of time.
heres an idea get a car i mean buy a car then one or many of us will check it to see what it needs. that said merry christmas kiddo. hope santa bring you a car. lol

heheh...you can say that again. In the 6-7 months since I've been back in vegas and been involved with the nv240 guys I've seen:
-2 spun bearings (1 SR20 [me], 1 KA [chris])
-5 curbs attack cars (mine [construction debris, but same thing], joel, joel again, devin, lennon)
-1 blown head gasket (JJ)
-1 stolen car (JJ)
-1 flipped car (jesse)
-1 car in ditch (chris)
-1 car get creamed by a cadillac (lennon)
-1 total engine failure (josh)
-a few turbo failures (me, devin, josh, ...)
hehe...damn...it's been a pretty cool time :)

1. coupe > hatchback, end of story
... must i break out the archive .
1 : hatch is more saught after bottom line , argue all you want , i will find more coupes for sale all day then fastbacks.
2: we allready had a vote on this bitch to put the life long arguement to rest... yer ugly ass 89 prelude lookin ass coupe already got owned by fastbacks ( hehe dont worry , we look like probes lol)
3. me and josh did a price quote thingy online were you can compare cars to other cars . we compared 91 coupe vs. 91 fastback vs.95 basemodel (haha chris vs me vs josh ). josh owned us for resale cuz his car was newer . he weighed more then both of us as well though. coupe had about an inch more headroom in the back seat and there was nothin else different form the 2 cars at all . weighed in at the same and all. the only other difference. my fast back was worth 55 dollars more then the coupe lol.
stick that in yer pipe and smoke it....http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v249/LvDvs/dumbshit/coleman2.jpg
and btw , i spun the bearing . not chris

Yeah, I just realized that.
Also, I could swear coupes weigh less than hatchbacks. I guess it depends on what site you visit since they ALL list different curb weights.
But I digress, coupe > hatch. I'd rather look like a prelude than a probe ;)
