no that wasnt me then mine is emerald green and the zenki front it looks crappy on the outside but im looking to paint here in a couple of months i'm thinking 350z blue and get rid of my stock rims for some gunmetal gray ones.

Anyone got the clear headlight covers? I'm thinking about getting those too.

My interior is complete though i finally found an ash tray that eluded me for a while. It may have been Kurai's car he's got a black kouki.

02-03-2009, 08:53 PM
yeah its not you.. but there is someone with that car im talking about in town, it's clean too i just think its an auto trans. too bad if it is.

i dont know anyone else with an s14 so no to your clear corners! sorry! we're like needles in a gay stack!

zenki front= happy face (it kinda looks happy compared to the kouki front)
ive yet to see another kouki driving around, im sure theyre out there though.
oh, and you might want to consider a color other than 350z blue. I've heard its a 3-stage paint. if this is true it means more money and way harder to match in the future if you wanted to put on/change a kit. plus there are alot of other nice colors out there that wouldnt require basecoat to be sprayed in multiple stages. just something to check into. if im wrong then it doesnt matter.
if you arent going with the stock color, doing something cfinch suggested a while back might be a good idea:
just go to the paint store and look through the books of colors, you might run across something similar that you like that is easier or something you like more all-together.

even if you were to stay with the same color you would be amazed how much better the car will look with a nice kit and fresh paint.
are you painting it yourself or having someone do it?

i have no idea how to paint so i was gonna get someone to do it I'm just thinking a blue color like they have on the 350z's it not really that exact color but we;ll see what happens. ive looked through a couple of books because i was gonna paint it earlier but i bought an sr instead. Ill consider keeping the stock emerald green I think its growing on me like a fungus

Nice s13 Kurai I love the tailights and wish they could go on my s14.

I remember a while ago you were looking for door handles if it was for you s13 there is one here at Pick'n'Pull in Sparks and like 5 in carson city. They are all the SOHC motors but the interior looked nice. If it was for you s14 I just got some part off a part out in NICoClub off a 95 for really really cheap the guy didnt care he just wanted the parts gone so you could get what you need for cheap from him let me know.

Did you ever sell the #62 redtop ecu? If not how much you want for it?

efin driver
02-04-2009, 08:16 PM
shes beautyful! why green and pink? my paint started oxydizing so im also thinking of getting a paint job here pretty soon...i just need a sweet kit and new wheels! thinking about matt black ext. and some kind of bright red int. with matt black rims and red racing stripe. dracula concept!

Kurai Shimo
02-05-2009, 01:04 AM
the person who said they wanted it never came through so i still have that ecu, idk, whatever the going rate is for them is fine by me ($140 i suppose). if you want it i could have it in reno in a couple weeks as i would bring it back with me so at least you wouldn't have to pay shipping or anything like that.
i would have painted the whole thing pink but that would have been insanely expensive.

mr peas
02-05-2009, 01:20 AM
You should just drive it without windows and doors....and seats. Its faster that way. And it will equally still look like a douche car.

Reno95240sx
02-05-2009, 05:23 PM
would it be alright if i tried out the ecu first to see if it solves the broken tach problem if it does im sure we could work something out

efin driver
02-05-2009, 08:47 PM
is it mandatory to replace the ecu and tach if you go SR?

Kurai Shimo
02-05-2009, 08:50 PM
i suppose it would be alright. hey joel might as well jsut drill out the rivets for the over fenders and take those off too, and go back to stock wheels because they're smaller and lighter. but then it would look worse than before, it at least needs to look the same.

Reno95240sx
02-05-2009, 10:26 PM
if you have the SOHC tach it wont work with the sr ecu. You have to use the sr ecu with the sr motor but nomally the tach works. Shoot me an email about the diff with your number and we can work something out mr3pwood@yahoo.com

your talking about primer black! im talking about matt black! im not sure what the difference is but im sure there is!
are you from reno too? how come i havent seen your car around town!

Kurai Shimo
02-06-2009, 09:38 PM
matte or satin black is usually a regular black with a flattener in the clear, so it washes like a normal painted car but just isnt glossy. honestly i think satin/matte black on a non baller car is not a good idea. it will still look basically like a primered black car. unless you have something like a lambo/ferarri/porsche or basically something thats kind of out there when it comes to styling. you'd, more than likely, be making it look like every other primered/rattlecanned 240 out there (inadvertently) even if you had wide fenders/baller wheels and what not.

also... shiny cars just look awesome!

efin driver
02-07-2009, 12:06 AM
maybe youre right, maybe it will just look like any other shit box out there. but how many 240 with that paint job have you seen? besides theres a huge difference in appearance and texture between matte and primer! its still just an idea anyway, i got more like candy paint on chrome spinners! hehehe

Kurai Shimo
02-07-2009, 11:24 PM
yeah, there is a difference in the texture and look, but from a short distance away its tough to tell that it isnt primered. it jsut doesnt have that glossy look that people associate with a nice paint job.
ive seen one satin black 240 and another one that was red/burgundy. it definitely looks better than rattle can but i really think that the average person cant really tell the difference.

Kurai Shimo
02-09-2009, 12:26 AM
i dont have a garage but i could lend a hand throwing it in.
as far as the paint goes, if you are unsure about how the paint will look. get a panel (like a fender) and test shoot it. that way you'll have a good idea of what you're getting yourself into.

id think that its safe to assume that a garage with a door would be less likely to have snow in it.
plus it for the most part has just been cold.

Well, I just got my wideband up and running about a week ago, so now all I should do is turn up the boost to 10-12lbs and see how she does. Then my next upgrade(once I have some cash) is a bigger turbo, supposedly that's all that's holding my RB back.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/wakotow/Final2.jpg

I'm pretty sure my little turbo will explode after 14lbs. but we'll see.

Given that the drags are closed till spring, I'll have to stick to on ramps to do my testing. I'll prolly try to bump up the boost saturday morning and see what she does.

Do any of you guys know if there's a car dyno in town, I know of a bunch of bike dynos but no car ones.

veloce240sx
02-12-2009, 09:18 AM
there is a dyno but im not sure where try this number and ask em. 331-6577 ivm. im running 18-20 lbs on my 25. so 14 should be fine but make sure everything else is ok usually a turbo is not the first thing to go.

wakotow
02-12-2009, 04:47 PM
Are you running the stock turbo? Cause I'm pretty sure based off the compressor maps that the stock turbo can flow enough air at 15+ lbs.
So what sort of mods have you done to your 25?

I'm pretty sure I have a boost leak, I tested it and it was good but then I thought my air compressor gauge was off and accidentally put like 35lbs through it and it blew my tester off and sliced my hand...anyway I think I may have pushed a connector loose, cause when I stomp on it it hesitates to start moving...so it's either than or my timing...we'll see.

a z32 tt axle isnt going to fit your 240 hubs. you just need a 5 bolt axle right?

ehh, no biggie, at least I got pizza out of it. I work all day friday, really saturday is my only free day usually, so we could do the following weekend if you guys want.

My number is 842.2195.

I know I'll need the 5 lug hub, I planned on swapping up to 5, my rims will do both 4 and 5 lug so I won't have to buy new ones. According to nico, I need the drivers side rear axle off of a q45 and the drivers side off a z32TT, and the diff out of the q45, I'll also have to do hubs and brakes. But I want the 3.69 gear ratio, that's the only reason I'm doing the axles and stuff.

wakotow
02-16-2009, 07:07 PM

ah, thats a pretty neat idea, but sounds like a pita if the axles ever need to be replaced down the road. im pretty sure most people that break axles break the cv joints anyway (or at least thats all i've ever broken/seen break). do you know if the joints themselves are any stronger on these axles?
also are you just doing the different gear ratio for fuel economy?

btw, have any of you guys ever seen any '00-'01(up to '04 might work) xterra's (4x4) at any junkyards around here?

We found an 06 Suzui Aerio at picknpull once took the motor outta it and payed $65 muahahahahaha ive seen a few zenki's there too. i usually go every monday so i see everything if i see anything ill let you know. still dont have your number tho

normally i could do saturday, but i have to be at the airport a little before noon so i couldn't go unless you wanna meet up before then.
in vegas meets were always pretty late at night in order to accommodate most everyone. but its also really cold here! (indoor meet?)
we should just work on a time that would allow meet on a more regular basis,
also a central location would be good so on one is having to drive really far.

Ya I'm doing it for fuel economy, saving my ears at 70mph on the freeway, stronger axles/CV joints, 5-lug, bigger brakes, and to save me a shift in the quarter mile.

That's pretty sweet, well lemme know when you guys are doin somethin again, I was kinda weary about driving uphill for a long ways, my RB has been running warm like 190-195 after a long uphill drive, and it should be in the 170-185 range...it's prolly not that big a deal right now, but come mid july I might have some problems.

Kurai Shimo
03-01-2009, 08:54 PM
the 190 range isn't really all that hot (its hot, just not super hot).
i had always heard that its not really a problem until temps start to climb over 200, so it seems like if temps are peaking in the low 190's it shouldn't be much of a problem.
a difference of 10 degrees from normal isnt super crazy or unexpected if you are driving it harder than "normal"

Supposedly it's pretty common to have an RB that overheats, according to the guys on nico, the best fix is to install the stock clutch fan, that seems to fix the issues if the standard bigger radiator/new water pump "fixes" don't work.

I also noticed the other day driving my sr that on a hard decel and then when i hit the throttle again i got a puff of smoke out the back. Checked the motor compression and everything was ok. Checked the turbo and little to no shaft-play. I read it could be a turbo oil seal but that if it was that there should be oil residue in the intercooler piping off the turbo but it was clean. I read today that the PCV valve could be bad causing the same problem but i havent checked that yet. It's not a constant smoke, i doesnt happen all the time the only thing consistant about it, is that it happens on decel when it does happen. Any other input from you guys would be nice. Thanks.

Are you using a harness or OEM belt (harness always is better)? The Megans have a medium height hip support so if you are around a 32" waist you might like them. If you want we can try to hook up some time and you can try it to see if you like it.

Fuel. This might sound stupid but have you checked the gap on your plugs. I am running my 550's wide open with 48lbs on the pressure reg and I always get fuel dump after WOT. Used to be really bad when plugs gapped at .30 but now set at .25-.26 really controlled the fuel poop out the back. Are you running OEM ECU, Flashed or Stand Alone?

Reno95240sx

OEM ECU and the smoke looks gray not black like it does with burnt fuel. I definently think its oil.

are you running an atmospheric bov?
if it were the seal on the turbo odds are it would smoke a whole lot more than just on decel.
on decel is it a puff immediately after letting off also or only when you get back on throttle? does it smoke like a train when it does smoke or is it fairly small?
valve seals?
are you sure the smoke is white and not dark?
also i have that ecu sitting here.

Hey I saw mention of Reno-Fernley Raceway. To those of you who go there, how is it? They seem to have a lot of open track days.

Fast and pretty technical. It has esses, chicanes, flick turns and a horseshoe. Most of the time it is the 2.9 mile H configuration but once in a while Danny will open up sunset on the back and it becomes a 4 mile course. Track is a little bumpy in places but nothing to drastic.

Where else can you go and pay $150 to spend all day on the track?

hey reno95 ive heard that the oil drain on the trubo is too small and can back up the oil wich can lead to oil in the intercooler pipes and or buring oil through the exhaust. not sure if this is true or straight bull shit but just figured i heads up ya. Will i might be out there but not to race my shit is hammered lol. ill let ya know for sure.

Kurai Shimo
03-04-2009, 11:44 AM
it is possible but if its a stock motor setup, unlikely. especially since ball bearing turbos use restrictors so they dont have a ton of oil flow anyway (compared to journal bearing).

reno95: are you still running that t3/t4 setup?

Reno95240sx

I may have missed it but are you running an atmospheric BOV? If you are, when you let off WOT, you MAF just told the computer that it has alot of air in the system, but now you just let alot of the air out, so you run rich for a little bit, that might explain the smoke. Do you have an AFR gauge? That should tell you if you're hitting rich for a couple of seconds.

It's the first weekend the drags are open out at top gun. I would be there, except I'm sure my car isn't track ready, I'm pretty sure that I need an external battery shutoff, and I'll need a helmet that's snell 2000 or above and I don't have either, so maybe next month. Fernley is so much more lax when it comes to that stuff, too bad it's not open as often.

They do not check to see if you have a cut-off switch for your relocated battery and they rent helmets for like 10 bucks.

ya I was there saturday, there wasn't a s13 or anything good unless you have a 200sx and need some sr20 parts. I was there to look and to help my brother cut the rear section of a civic out, his was all smashed up and we're going to weld a new one in this weekend.

What's involved in the oil feed/return if I'm changing my turbo? I'm going from the stock to a holset, what parts will I need to get the oil hooked up?

Kurai Shimo
05-01-2009, 01:31 PM
what turbo are you going to?
probably going to need a whole new oil feed with appropriate fittings. (12x1.25 for the block i think)
and whatever it is for the turbo im sure a local hose shop could make one up quick.
Could do an adapter fitting to either an -an line or a barb fitting for the oil drain. to some extent it depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.
im pretty sure this is correct, if someone wants to chime in and verify that would be great.

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b381/wakotow/100_4053.jpg

I'm pretty sure that's the oil feed side...

According to what I've found on nico, that's a T3 fitting, so can I just use the lines/fittings that are on my current turbo?

There is a guy on CL selling a 180sx chasis for 600. Ive seen it and it really is pretty much picked clean but he has some aftermarket parts you might be able to get off him. I think he had a greddy downpipe, turbo timer, rims and tires, when I saw it a couple of months ago. No front end either. Schools out for me and Im with Kurai it was pretty rough.

Kurai Shimo
05-14-2009, 10:34 PM
if the 180 you are talking about is that rattle canned orange one, that thing is a huge piece. seriously they should be paying to have that thing taken away. when i saw, it was a bare shell with a saftey 21 bolt-in cage welded to the chassis. it was kinda rusty iirc and the 180 quarter glass was busted.
semester is done, lets go drink!

oh btw, i forgot about the whole turbo thing. pretty sure stock lines wont work. and youre getting a different manifold anyway right? if yes then it wont even be in the same location.

wakotow
05-15-2009, 06:20 AM
Can't afford a manifold yet, I kinda got it all figured out.
Are any of you going out to the fallon drags on may 30th?

Kurai Shimo
05-15-2009, 01:05 PM
if that turbo has a t3 flange, you will be trying for a really long time to get that thing to bolt up to your stock manifold.
good to hear you got it worked out though.

Reno95240sx
05-15-2009, 02:02 PM
wow kurai lol your dead on with that 180 i just didnt want to be that mean, but ya the shell sucks really bad but if anyone want a downpipe they could call him.

Kurai Shimo
05-15-2009, 02:47 PM
well i didnt realize it had any additional parts on it, it looked pretty much picked clean when i saw it (though i didnt look at it all that well, i was looking at a sohc hatch that guy was selling).
so i guess it might be a slightly better deal than i first thought.
but it was one of those things where if it were a normal 240 no one would look twice before passing on it, but because its super jdm its supposed to be worth some unreasonable amount of money now.
maybe in cali and if it werent rusty (or had a title) you could pawn it off on someone.
but in reno? its just not realistic.
Btw when i first saw that thing on craigslist (online pics) when i moved here it was rust brown and iirc they wanted like 1500 for it.

oh, im pretty sure cody was saying he was down for a meet on sunday night if any of you folks are interested.

you can get into both garages without going over the speed bumps. the west stadium garage has no speed bumps at the lower entrance (just north of the main entrance to the school). and the other one you can just drive in the exit.

I figured out why my body lines had been bondoed over, he put the rear fenders on too low, the body lines are about .5 inches lower than the door's body lines, so now I have to decide which looks less bad, no bodly lines, or body lines that don't line up.

That turbo feed is the same as the block M12x1.5, I verified it with a bolt today just to make sure.

that sucks hella bad, but that also means the the fenders will be lower in the rear, meaning if you made your car pretty low, the rear would look super dumped out. maybe it can be salvaged to look pretty cool.
worst case scenario buy new rear over fenders and remove the old ones. which probably means alot of bondo removal.

of course; just saying that even in worst case scenario all is not lost. if you had to remove them, drilling out rivets shouldnt be too bad once you removed enough bondo that you could see them.
