I am from Reno. Well tahoe but its close enough. the roads are pretty good for drifting(not saying that i do any) but there are alot of police so its kinda risky.

its a long ass drive.. about half way into it you start to get into the high desert, so its not THAT bad.. im thinking of going up to tahoe on the 4th of july.. maybe this could be a "group" thing..?

Just bought a 95 240 a month ago. My name is Nick and I'm 21 currently going to University of Nevada and that's where I saw a black 240 with you website sticker on it so I figured I'd check it out. So here I am.

Nice 240 by the way, was thinking of painting mine the same color but now I cant... lol o well

08-28-2008, 09:45 PM
Was it the guy with the blue hatch because thats the other car i saw up there today actually. Id like to talk sometime at least to bounce ideas off. Its my first car im actually interested in modifying. I drove a beater truck before so didnt really care about modding it at all. Im actually looking into an engine swap and want an sr but tempted to go with an rb20 mainly because the front clip is sooooo cheap..... which also makes me suspicious. if you know anything hit me up. Also is there a place here in Reno where they do swaps or you can buy jdm parts, engines. If I can get a good shop in town to do the swap for cheap im down for saving myself some work.

mr peas
08-28-2008, 09:46 PM
You live in Reno and drive a 240? That sucks balls. You and Kurai over there can suck balls together, snow balls I mean, in winter. Haha..

anywhere good to buy front clip up here by reno. Id go to sacrament of SF. The only one ive heard of is venus auto parts

Dgramps01
08-29-2008, 08:59 AM
venus auto would probably be your best bet....but i would suggest going there yourself and hand picking the motor bring kurai shimo he knows his stuff, there are a ton of other shops in Sac. but chances are, they would get their clips from venus.

Don't get anything from the SF BAY...they are over priced, and they are also coming from Venus. remember, SF is full of civics and integras....people with SR cars in the bay mainly do it themselves.

yes you guessed right, the RB20 is cheap because of such reasons.

Reno95240sx
08-31-2008, 09:10 PM
alright thanks price I got like 3 grand and i am looking for a swap. I called Venus like a week ago and they didnt have any front clips the quoted me 2100 for the engine swap with an intercooler kit. I just wanted the clip so i didnt have any surprises with extra stuff I would have to buy. Lookin to do my swap before october.

Kurai Shimo
09-02-2008, 08:15 PM
i heard some of the stuff from venus is pretty jenky. do you have the means to haul and/or store a clip? they are fairly large and inconvenient to move. so be aware.

Reno95240sx
09-02-2008, 09:02 PM
ya i got two truck to choose from and i called today and they only have the engine and tranny for 2000 and then they will give you the side mount intercooler for 200 more. It sounds like its too expensive to ship clips from Japan so the just take the frame off and ship everything. Which kinda makes me wonder what got banged up in transport. He did say he had a couple of redtops though to choose from. I was planning on going over there to look if anyone wants to go. Then I found an interesting possibility to trade my car with some cash and get a 97 240. So it pretty much depends on this possible trade wither or not I go to Sac this weekend to check it out.

On a side note I talked to a guy I knew in Carson you drives a 240 and apparently most of his friends do. I invited them to join so we'll see what happens. Also saw a black 240 hatch at school which bring my count to 4 240 at school.

Whats your 240 like Kurai?

By the way let me know if you want to meet somewhere

Sure Ill take a look at it just for fun I guess. I really dont want to deal with trying to sell my car. I got too much to do already with work and college but doesnt hurt to look.

sweet deal ya i heard bad things about motors from canada was it from oshaka or something like that. My friend just got a hernia so he cant lift more than five pounds for like three month and he was going to help me so now I really am screwed o well Ill find a way. Did he get just the motor or did he buy a front clip. If he bought just the motor what else did he get to make it running. Trying to get everything on order so there are no surprizes when I start.

same here, i usually dont mind lending a hand when able. i wouldnt have a motor shipped to you if you can help it, at least that way you can resolve any problems, missing parts, etc. on the spot and you can make sure you dont get a pos. because id assume that if you allow them to pawn off crap inventory to you (via letting them send you whatever) that they will do exactly that.

Reno95240sx
09-09-2008, 10:45 PM
sweet deal thanks guys Im looking at some 89 240's with sr20 and many other mods in them and Im thinking of buying those cars and swapping out all the good stuff and then resell the 89 with my 240 motor and other stuff in there. Im definetly not buying a motor online. I wont buy it unless I see it and it runs well.

I wont be swapping till mid october because my dad goes out of town and I can steal his car while hes gone for the week. Ill definetly call you guys up so I can get some help it would be nice, I've never done a swap before because 1 never had a car worth doing it and 2 never had any money either.

Kurai Shimo
11-25-2008, 01:53 PM
for the most part just the people that posted in this thread. its seems like alot (not all) of "car people" ive met here either dont know anything about 240's here or hate on them for some reason. i cant even tell you how many times ive been told my car doesnt make any sense, or that it would be cooler if it were a vw/subaru/evo
guess im getting old, stubborn and stuck in my ways
btw welcome to nv240sx.org!

Kurai Shimo

wakotow
12-01-2008, 08:37 PM
No I wish I had done the swap, the swap wasn't too bad. The wiring was, and still is, pretty hideous (but it's getting better). I bought it from a guy I found on nicoclub out of North Carolina, it cost me 4500and then 950ish to ship it. I haven't gotten to drive it yet though cause I had problems with the CAS and then the MAF and had to replace both and now I have to make it all legit to pass smog, which means I have to fabricate and install an EGR system, which I'm mostly done with, and once finals are over I'll be tearin' it up.

Ya we can meet up once I get it goin' finals are over the 12th so from now untill then I have to put time into those, but whenever after that, I'm out here in Golden Valley. Where're you guys at?

Kurai Shimo

im looking for a BOV. I cant decide which to get and i dont weld well to do it myself.

Plus im a little unsure where you mount it. I've heard/read that you can mount it on the intake to the turbo but I dont want to do that because I heard it can mess up the MAF. I also heard that people mount it on the intercooler pipe leading to the turbo or the intercooler pipe leading to the throttle body. Like I know where they mount them but dont know which to choose and the only difference ive heard is that is you mount it on the turbo side it sounds louder, I could care less about noise but I really just want what works best.

it wont do anything if mounted to the intake but i can be recirculated back into the intake.
as long as its on a charge pipe it doesnt make much of a difference.
give me a call some time when you are free. i dont really want to type everything.

btw, what tires do you guys use out here that have any type of grip in the snow.
apparently st115's dont like it. the feddys i have on the front dont seem to grip that bad though.
it took me like 10 minutes to get out of the parking lot by the library because uphill and especially on those big speed bumps the car would just spin tire(off throttle in drive).
thank god there werent many/any cars on the road, i don't think they would have appreciated the slow motion longslides down the street.
im thinking maybe i should slap my 2way in the car when in back in vegas for winter break.
i figure it will either make it worse or better depending on how you look at it.
for the most part its really just an issue of not being able to accelerate from a stop/low speed/up in incline. the car an still turn and stop pretty well given the conditions.

wakotow
12-15-2008, 07:28 AM
well I was just going to put the same tires that are already on it, the ones I have now are pretty much bald, those're falken ze 512 or somethin' like that, we'll see though, they're pretty wide, I'll let you know next weekend, when I can get a moving prermit to go get it smogged, I also have to wait for my tires to come. My other car has just standard all season passenger tires on it, and it doesn't do horrible.

Kurai Shimo
12-15-2008, 04:49 PM

I think I'll be alright, I don't drive the 240 on icy days, I have my mazda for that...and aren't studded tires expensive? I've never had to buy them before.

i just snagged some cheap snow tires (studless) couldnt stand having to push the car to get it moving.
work good enough studded is probably overkill. might upgrade them with some sandbags for a bit more grip.

ya they were new and cheap and my friend recommended them he has them on his del sol. i saw in the paper that mr hubcap has 4 four studded tires used for 150 size 195/65/15 its a pretty good deal.
