I'm not even going to bother starting a pissing contest with you. You obviously think you know anything about me or my old car just based on the way it looked? Why don't you head over to Freshalloy and look up member "rextreme." Take a look and you will see what I have contributed to the 240sx community. I'm member number 118 of over 27000 now. I been driving 240s since before all the dori dori bandwagon and, based on your birthdate, I've been driving 240s since before you were old enough to drive.

That kit on the old S14 was the legitimate Bomex kit purchased in 2000 before the 240sx bandwagon. Plenty of mods under the hood but I'm sure you come up with some lame response to flame the mods also. I'll throw out some brand names under the hood. You might not recognize them because they're not the typical Megan, Tenzo, Obx, Apr, and Ebay specials that you're used to.

Carillo
Arias
Cometic
Turbonetics
Spearco
Nissan Motorsports
MSD
Jim Wolf
Fidanza
SPEC

Also, let me help you with your english skills. I posted, "soon to be white maroon s14." I know that wording might be a little difficult for you to understand. I'll break it down for you. "Soon to be white," means that it will soon be white. The part that says "maroon s14," means it is currently a maroon s14.

I purchased my first 240 over 5 years ago and that means absolutely nothing. I've built more and better cars than you have in your fucking dreams. Your not shit and I'm gonna keep ragging on your ugly ass car.

I'm glad you have learned how to search the internet for parts manufacturers now shut up and take the hits cause they are just gonna keep on coming old man.

I'm dropping names because you seem to think my car was rice. I don't need to search the internet for brand names because I actually own those parts. I don't claim that I have built numerous fast cars. I know what I have and I know what works. Check my credentials over on FA and you'll see that I am one of the first to pioneer blow through MAF on the KA and I was one of the first turbo KA's in the country. I don't claim to be a SR tuner and I'm not into all that JDM hype. You may think I'm a ricer, but I don't do any of that. If you want to see me driving my car, you can catch me at Primm on the 14th.

Hi there, welcome to the club! good, a new S14 owner...we need more

Anyways, i just wanted to point something out.

You forgot to put a comma in the phrase....and it didn't read right. "soon to be white [comma] maroon S14" would have been a better alternative, but your grammar is still bad, the best way would have been... "I currently drive a maroon S14, soon to be white"

Ahh... you must be a SR fanboy. The only thing I paid for in my build is the machine work. The entire engine was put together myself. I'm not going to get into an SR vs. KA debate with you. If you were so bright about engines, you would know each engine has their strengths and weaknesses.

KA:
Cam over bucket valvetrain
Larger displacement
Fully girdled iron closed deck block

SR:
Square Engine
Factory Turbocharged

I could go on...

Give me specific reasons why the KA is garbage and I will give you reasons why the SR is garbage. Most likey, I'll get the "KA is a truck engine" and "SR is factory turbo" responses.

Yes you do not want to enter that debate with me... I do prefer an sr any day over a ka and I know every ka loving idiot will go on for days on how the advantages of the ka. We obviously build cars for 2 completely different forms of motorsports but the bottom line is even in drag racing the ka will never surpass the sr... The bore and stroke is your biggest disadvantage and you guys praise that shit like it's the best shit ever... I will say the head on the ka is better than the sr but you need to get over the whole iron block 2.4l bullshit.

I never knocked your engine setup... It's what you run and you like it good for you. It obviously suits your power needs and gets the job done but why sink the money into the bottom end without touching the head?

Yes, to each their own. Like I have said, each engine has their advantages and disadvantages. The SR has had the advantage of being the more widely accepted engine over the past few years hence the larger aftermarket support. The KA, however, is picking up speed. Just recently someone did 700+ hp on the KA. Brian Crower is in the process of producing a 2.65l stroker kit for the KA. The KA is slowly starting to move in SR territory. The ridiculously rod/stroke ratio of the KA does lend to its rpm handicap, but the displacement more than makes up for it. Having a large rpm range is wonderful, but you have to have the turbo to back it up. I would rather take my 2.4l and spool my T4 at 3500 rpm and take it to 7000 rpm rather than take a similar SR and spool at 5000 rpm. My car is still a street car and I prefer the low end power delivery.

Regardless, everyone has their flavor. The SR is smooth vanilla, and the KA is rocky road. All things being equal, I will take the KA due to it's displacement advantage. Because, in the end, a properly built engine will have both new top and bottom ends.

BTW, there has been headwork done, but I am not too fond of posting a complete mod list.

I mean the motors displacement has it's advantages but only up to a certain point... If you want to talk about what other people are doing mazworx is building heads that allow them to rev up to 11k... So you give up 1k rpms in spool up time to be able to rev 4k higher which may be alittle off but what your giving up in the low end your picking back up in the top end and then some. Even with the hydraulic lifters you can go up to 8k on an sr so where your picking up spool the gain is nil over the capability of taking the rpms higher... Overall where is the gain from the displacement? Stock for stock there is obviously a gain but depending on the level of modification there really isn't much to gain.

True one could build an SR head to take 11k rpm, but like I said, one would need a turbo matched to that kind of powerband. There isn't a turbo out there that I know of that will spool at 5k rpm on a 2.0l and not run out of steam by 11k. For drag racing and maximum HP production, 11k rpm would be great. But for the sake of streetability (and autox), I prefer the torque advantage of the KA.

Regarding rpm, the KA has not been tested thoroughly enough to determine it's max rpm capacity. Some people have been talking about spinning it to 9k rpm. People were generally afraid of exploding the engine due to insane pistons speeds, but some don't believe that anymore. The next hinderance would be the half counter weighted crank. More and more are willing to push their KAs to see what they can do.

In regards to the gain from displacement, the torque curve would show it all. It's one thing to shoot for maximum hp. It's another to have a torque curve flat enough for track use.

As I'm sure you already know, there are 2 general ways to make power:
1. Displacement
2. Revs

The KA does #1 well and the SR does #2 well.

When I built my engine, JWT was the only readily available ECU tune. The only other option was S-AFC or stand alone. JWT provided stock drivability. Enthalply and all the others were just getting into the rom tuning scene when I was researching my build and I was not comfortable being a "guinea pig" for a new start up tuner. JWT was tried and true. JWT's tunes are a bit conservative and pricey, but I had no other options at the time. I think JWT's products are fine with the exception of their prices. The only other thing I have from them is a fuel rail. I know there is a lot of JWT hate out there, but they have pioneered quite a few things for us.

P.S. Generally if it's not bigger and stronger than what I already have, no thanks. Therefore. VK56 > VQ35 > KA24, SR20, CA18 > RB26 > RB25 > RB20.

I think if one is going to go through the trouble of swapping in an engine is is not direct drop in (excluding the mckinney kit), the gains should be worth the effort. I am a firm believer of Function over From. A RB swap is not worth the money when only gaining .1-.2l of displacement. Sure, RB's can make 700hp, but so can KAs, SRs, and CAs. RBs are all show (No hate, just my opinion).

lol! Yeah people treat rb's like they are just a drop in motor... When they really aren't. I mean there are ways to use rb trannies and rb crossmembers and make them drop in with such poor engine placement... Then you got wieght, cooling issues, oil pick up problems, lack of available parts etc... it's a terrible choice especially when your talking about an rb20...

It all depends on what your using the engine for... To me there is nothing like driving an sr around with a good size turbo, cams, lightweight flywheel, aluminum driveshaft etc... Just free revving to 8k so much fun... but the only think I do is drift no drag... You just drag right or road race too?
