Well, got home at around noon today and of course had to take the new S2000 out for a spirited drive.
Impressions:
-8000rpm redline is weak, i miss the 9000rpm of the older models
-VTEC sounds cool, but still doesn't make power
-I miss torque, this car really needs a blower or a turbo
-the '04+ (ours is an '05) have a definite increase in low-end power compared to the older models. whereas in the older ones you really had to have the engine about 4000rpm or so in gear for any passing power the new ones have a decent amount of power (at least enough to start accelerating to pass) by about 2800rpm or so
-the new ones are way easier to drive (make sense??) than the older ones
-stiffer suspension on the old ones is better than the new
-AWESOME brakes. I would have to say that braking with the stock tires (Potenza S-02's?) is on-par with my Z brakes, azenis, and HP+ pads.
Oh yeah, also got some mad JdM DriFTiNg action going on while coming back into my neighborhood. I must say the S2k is a real easy car to handle at the limit, very progressive when losing traction and easy as hell to reign back in.
