*WARNING BEFORE CONTINUING THIS IS VERY NOT 56K FRIENDLY And If You Are Using A 56K Modem YOU SHOULD Make A move to EMBRACE TECHNOLOGY...it's the future*

Hi,
I just wanted to document my car as I go along and modify it. Here is how it started. I bought it like this. Fairly straight car. . Black/gray interior. Bad carpet tear on the seat and no stereo. But not bad at all over all.

What the car has.
Only 120K miles
Uncracked dash
Eibach springs with Tokico shocks(blown).
Clutch fan removed and a gay freakin' wire job done all through the car.
Air Intake
Pretty good interior considering the age

Stuff it came with.
NIB factory replacement clutch
a Bunch of New Belts
NIB EGR valve(who replaces these anyway?)
Two full sets of rims with tires
3 extra tires

What it lack.
VLsd
Stereo

Price: $3K
The guy who owned it before me smoked in it a lot. I wouldn't care cept I am asthmatic. So I am have been purifying it off all the smoke residue, factory sound dampening material, and cleaning up the mess of wires.

I want to be complete with all my mods. So this last week I removed the heavy crank pulley and put on a 1.6lb offbrand ebay UDP(as close as I could find to the Unothodox) and replaced all the belts for fitament and since they needed it very badly. I was very sceptical at first of an ebay knock off part but they garunteed their work and it fit/looks nice and my gas mileage increased. I also replaced the motor mounts with Nismo's... found them off a guy for 150$ since he wanted soemthing completely solid for his racecar. Nismo's are excellent. My one motor mount was broke completely in two and the tranny and other engine mount were about to go I am sure. It shifts sooo much better now. I also removed the vaccum surge tank and plugged the lines to clean up the engine bay.

Nismo Motor Mounts $150
UDP $50
Vaccum Plugs $6 (I went for the full set just cause)

I will post some pics of the engine bay once I get it cleaned up a little more. I have a dual electric fan setup from a mustang SVT in the mail. It has about the right dimensions so I can ditch the little single fan setup and way cheaper than the flexalites. I am also picking up a Kaaz 2-way in pumkin off Nismo drifter on our very own boards. I wasn't planning to upgrade to lsd this soon but the deal was good enough to push it to the front of my planning scheme. sideways is gonna give me a hand dropiing it in tonight.

I have the same shit done to my KA too, K&N Panel filter, poly motor & trans mounts, lightweight UDP, high flow cat, exhaust.. If I were you I'd start focusing your efforts on the suspension -- the KA is never going to be a rocket unless you turbo it.

The diff will open your eyes... You'll love it

If you haven't already you should do some maintenance work on it; new plugs, rotor, cap, plug wires, z32 fuel filter, new oil & oil filter.

Also when you get the KAAZ, make sure you use the Kaaz oil or at least use something NON SYNTHETIC. According to Kaaz, the synthetic oil has additives and shit that glaze the surfaces of the clutches and eventually cause the diff to not lock up as hard. A good alternative to the OG Kaaz oil is made by Torco (google).

Do you plan on coming to some practice events this year?

ak_slick
02-12-2007, 03:28 PM
Yes, I would love to do some events. Turbo will be coming along soon enough. Maybe something temporary at 5lbs but I want to wait till I can rebuild the engine/cooling system etc... I have only had the car for about 2 months now working as fast as I can afford. :D

02-12-2007, 03:29 PM
Its Sidewayzzz :P

dude, his KA is omg potent compared to my coupe, my clutch sucks dick right now.

We're gonna drop the diff in with the kaaz oil thats coming with it, I think nismo drove a s13 so we won't have to swap diff covers or anything like that, probably won't even have to put fluid in it. (cause the diff is already in pumpkin)

mello88
02-12-2007, 09:14 PM
Why wouldn't you change the fluid, to save a couple bucks and 10 minutes?

Look forward to seeing at some events Slick, GL with the car

02-12-2007, 10:18 PM
Alright, got the Kazz in and I can say it kicks ass. Worth every penny. Took about 45 minutes to swap them out considering it was already in the pumkin. Did a little "spirited" driving afterwards. I love it. Highly recommend getting an LSD if you don;t have one already it is a MUST have. Maybe don't go straight to top of the line like me but I have driven a couple cars so I knew more of what I wanted. Pics should be coming along later as I am pretty sure "Sidewayzzz" (Ryan) took some.

All general maintenance has been more than taken care of... no worries there.

Kazz 2-way LSD in pumkin: $600

Was a fuse eddie, it's fixed :)

and he re-wired the fan.

Are you sure that there is Kazz oil in the diff. I would change it just to be safe, you never know what the last owner put in there.

ak_slick
02-13-2007, 10:44 AM
He seemed pretty reputable and considering I spent 45minutes with him pulling it off his car. He said he put Kaaz oil in it and gave me another two quarts to change it anyway cause he had them. So I am planning to do the fluid change this weekend just to be completely safe. Yeah that clock thing was just a fuse(soo stupid, I'm glad someone knew what was going on cause it was pissing me off). I cleaned up the wiring for my fan and vaccum lines. I have the fan turning on with ignition now. Triggger wire is temporarily run till I get my mustang fans in the mail.

Alright, I made it to the junkyard this weekend with Nick. Good times saw Danillo there. Anyway I manged to find a manual seatbelt that fits in my s13 perfectly :D and a center console trim piece that looks practically mint. For $11.50 I just couldn't go wrong. After getting rid of the automatic seatbelt on the drivers side and popping in the manual it holds me so tight I was thinking about not getting a harness till I remembered that they are required for most events(correct?)

Anyway I snatched the seatbelt from nissan sentra. Soemthing looking early 90s late 80s maybe. I have no clue to tell you the truth. We just went down the line grabbing seatbelts and then ran them over to the s13 down the line to see if they fit :righton: Well worth the time for how much they charge for s14 seatbelts.

Also got the Kaaz oil changed and had i confirmed that it wasn't Kazz in there before. I thought it was predictable before but now it is just unbelieveable. Perfect.

Still waiting on the damn mustang fans...apparently they have been at a sorting station in canada as given by my tracking number. I am going to call them tommorrow.

Those seatbelts you picked up were from 1987-1990 B12 nissan sentra's (my daily driver)..there are otehr alternatives besides the mustang fans! haven't you been waiting on those fans forever and a day now?

Added n240sx.org stickers today  And for some reason (unknown) I am running rich.

I was throwing a knock sensor code. Pulled the KS out and replaced it cause it was cracked. Tried again still got knock sensor code. Traced the wiring found a short. soldered and heatshrinked it. No more knock sensor code but I am still running hell rich and laggy.

Found out my egr had a vaccum leak so we blocked it off and plugged the tubes. Vaccum is much better now and my idle surging has stopped. But still runnning like I have my knock sensor code thrown. But with a code 55... which for SOHC means everything is good. But I have a damn DOHC! so frustrating. If anyone has any ideas I made a post in the technical thread, rather continued my old one about the same problem.

Sidewayzzz
03-08-2007, 07:40 PM
55 is a code for no malfunctions for both DOHC and SOHC. Since you played with the EGR valve and plugged vacuum lines, It is VERY possible that you plugged/unplugged/unsourced the vacuum line for the Fuel Pressure Regulator, check that, as it is very close to the EGR valve vacuum mess.

ak_slick
03-13-2007, 10:29 PM
well, for the pictures we have the sticker, the manual seatbelt, and the center console piece found at the junkyard, removed egr, and then the engine bay as it was last week with the wiring mess for the fan which will be fixed tommorrow. Also fixed my car, it was an injector. cleaned out the engine bay so now some more pics should be on order

Oh yeah the stickers make it way faster... actually my car was running fine till I put on the sticker... I think joel hates me and gave me the demon sticker.

Alright, so I finally got my mustang fans on the car and cleaned up the mess of wires on the battery. Also, Nick got loose with a can of hi temp paint and attacked my valve cover and decided to make my knock of AEM intake look almost real. The mustang fans draw soo much current I had to buy another relay so I can run them both. I am pretty sure when they are both runnig they will pull more air than the flexalites. They sound kind of like an airplane. Also newest addition to the parts flying onto my car. I picked up Jason's old koyo and his rear hatch shelf cause mine didn;t have one when I bought it. Poor guys car is soo totalled anyway here are the pics in varying stages of progress.

And yes the zip ties are temporary till I get the koyo on there. I am gonna run some door seal around the outer edge and then I think some aluminum rails to mount the fan to. Before you all attack my zipties.

Yay, new update. My engine blew a piston ring. At least one I am sure of it. It hydrolocked when it had a leaking injector seal cause I thought it looked okay to reuse. Anyway, now I have oil and lovely oil smoke billowing out of my exhaust. I am hopefully get it all torn into tommorrow and see how bad the damage is. It is bad. Getting more towards that turbo build much sooner than expected.

Yes, I believe it is now completely without a doubt established that my engine is toast. Thanks for your imput george... lol. My car went on a cruise today, behind an old 94 ford bronco with a chain. nice work though. didnt think just a pressure washer could do that well on a messy engine. or did you use the foamy engine cleaner?
did you wash the pulleys as well? make sure you re-pack the bearings with grease or they will all squeal when your done. damhik B)

Just a pressure washer, no chemicals yet. Might hit the hard spots with some but a little steel wool seems to do the trick quite nicely. Alright... so I forgot the camera in my car  doh!... so pictures will come tommorrow. The rundown for today 5 hours of work. Pulled the crank pulley on the replacement engine, removed secondary butterfly valves in the runners(swirl valves), sawed off the heater hose pipe on the intake manifold, removed the throttle body line, removed and blocked off egr, removed a lot of vaccum hose mess. Modified the AACValve a little bit... not sure if it will work but I have a spare now. Painted the new block in high temp black, gloss black, and aluminum cast coat with clear on it. Painted pretty much everything minus the vavle cover. Pulled the old engine presure washed the engine bay, engine and tranny. Still dirty cause it is pretty cooked on but no loose dirt anymore.

The goal for tommorrow is to hopefully get the rest of the accessories swapped over, altrenator, UDP, finish bolting up the intake manifold, etc, and drop in the engine and *fingers crossed* get it running. Pictures tommorrow.

Forgot to take a before picture here, but this is the block the AAC Valve mounts on. Ot is hard to see but I dremeled out the hole that is adjusted by the screw on the side in hopes of being able to disconnect and removed those valves and just have my idle air set by the screw. If I works it should cut down on surging I think. It is the hole above the square one. I enlarged it to about twice it's normal area.

Alright so we got the engine running tonight... runs good cept the front main seal leaks something serious. About an ounce of oil for every 5 minutes running at idle. So my car will wait till we can replace that. Hopefully this saturday. Running with a disconnected AAC valve, and whatever you call the other one right by it on the back flange the name escapes me at the moment. Still working on smoothing the idle a little. Needs a good seafoaming I am sure. I haven;t removed the valves yet, going to see if it runs better with them on and compare to see which I can tune the idle smoother or make a difference. Pictures of the motor in car coming later I am too tired right now.

You didn't use the same injectors from the other motor did you? Cause if you did, and replaced the o-rings, it may have been stuck open rather than just leaking...leading to the same demise...
