Greetings... Wow, I was amazed to come across this forum. I never realized there was such a following for 240sxs here in Vegas. Sadly, I found out about it a little too late. My 240 just died on me a few weeks ago, and I have moved on to a SUV. (Needed the cargo room) I'm posting to see if any of you can help me figure out what to do with it?

I have a 95 240sx SE. It's an automatic, and thats where the main problem is. For the past few months, the car would not reverse. Somehow I was able to use it for a while, while I saved up money to buy a new car. Recently, I tried to start it, and when I placed it into drive, the engine shut off. I tried a few times, and the problem repeated. A few days later I tried it and I was able to drive agian. The reverse still did not work. I didn't want to take a chance so I just ended up buying a new car.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with it. How much would I be looking at if I wanted to replace the transmission? How much would it be worth to sell with and without the transmission fixed? I really don't expect much at all, so should I just donate it and get a tax write off?

By the way... it is not in the greatest shape. In addition to the transmission issue (truthfully, i'm not even sure if it's the transmission) there are some dents, problems with the door locks, windows, and the odometer broke at 104,000+.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Adrian

depending on whats wrong with it you should be able to get atleast a 700 maybe more for it if anything. it sounds like the electrical in your car isnt quite up to snuff and you need a new transmission. maybe its something more then that.

take it to dougs shop, ice performance. hell give you a good readout on whats going on. his work is all quality, if i were you i wouldnt have it anyother way.

keep us up to date.

Hello,

Junk yard auto trans - $500-$1000 depending on milage and warrenty

Labor - Do it yourself / friends - Free
Shop - $150-300

5-speed swap - varys greatly (depends on if you get new or used parts), but easier then you think - ~$1000

Now that I have been exposed to MANY more 240sx's in the last year I have found that reverse is BIG BIG problem in 240sx auto trans's.

If you need more info or a shop to do the work let me know.

*EDIT* THANKS for the props Jesse (iser)!!!

Thanks for all the replys. I'm still debating whether I should even fix it. Is it worth it? Can I even sell it for anything with the odometer broken? If I don't sell it I don't want to pay insurance on 2 cars. Decisions decisions.

Hello,

You can pick up a new gauge cluster (speedo, tach, odo...the whole thing) from a junk yard for $50-100. Its about a 10 minute install.

Not running your car is worth about $500-1000

With about $1500 MAX in work you have a perfect car worth $5000
