View Full Version : My Pain In The A$$ S13 Project Car -

Well I bought this car from a co-worker of mine for a few hundred dollars. I've only had a few hours a week to put into this car. When it was purchased it had *3* holes through the block. So I purchased an s14 kade from Josh put it in(still not running - timing or fuel issues) Ordered a set of coilovers for it (I was sent coilovers for a different car). And then the steering wheel I ordered was lost in the mail system. After all this I decided to take a 2 week break from the car. Stumbled upon the $50.00 Paint Job threads all over the internet.

50 Dollar Paint Job Thread on HT.com (http://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1555133)

Put in a few days into the paint job... Well the steering wheel finally came in as did a knock sensor and a couple of other parts I've needed. The car finally started for me but died shortly after. So here I am again trying to get this project completed. Still waiting for the coilovers to show up at my door so I can install those. Anyways.. on to the crappy pics of my project. I would push it out into the street but pushing it back in the garage is more work than I care to take on... Anyone wiling to come by and help me out with this POS please shoot me a message.

The paint was soo bad I had to sand and spray can primer her-

The interior had soo much trash I filled 2 trash cans with trash. The carpet must have had a few quarts of oil spilled inside as once I removed the carpet I spent another 2 days de-greasing the floors...

After the 50.00 paint job-

The passenger windor regulator needs to be replaced-

The only thing worth showing off on the whole project-

Thanks for looking and wish me luck with completing this project. I have a complete turbo kit waiting to go on but I wont put it on untill I know this project will hold it... LMAO

Yea Im going to be there... I would love to be able to enter it. I just dont want to have to enter my stang... I just figured out that my only problem left now if fuel. My timing is right on, I have good spark. So I sprayed carb cleaner in the intake manifold and it started right up.. hmmmmm... why arent my injectors firing???

Vacuum or something else....

just bring the stang to the event...at least your helping the scene grow...who cares if its domestic...what really matters is support!

BTW i would rather see a mustang than a chevy cobolt or eclipse

Notice my house and my neighbors house reflecting of the 50.00 paint job. LMAO.. If I sand a little more and then buff it out again it will come out amazing.Eric was at my house the other day checking it out... My prep work was the downfall for some of the paint job... but it sure kicks the crap out of any spray can job...

I got the car up and running but I really need an MAF... can someone here drive by with a good MAF so I can try it out just to make sure everything is running right. Also there is a tick coming from the engine, Ive been told its the lifters and I need to get the car out onto the road for a few miles at cruising speed before the sound goes away.

Well Ill keep you guys updated.. GC coilover sleeves will be on it soon.. (they were free from an old sponsor of mine so I didnt complain)

See u guys tonite at sonic-

***UPDATE***

Well the whole time it was never my timing or anything else... The motor was blown to begin with... No worries Josh, Im not mad at ya... theres no way you could've known that since the crash cracked your valve cover and timing cover the timing went off and wham piston to valve crash...

Compression Test - 180 - 30 - 180 - 180....

Now just have to get my funds back for the engine... and order the SR like I should have...

That engine ran before he pulled it... Did you take the timing cover off and replace the timing chain cover, guides, timing chain etc and make sure it was right before you put it in your car? I mean you bought a motor that was obviously damaged like that I dunno how anyone could expect to just drop it in and have it just run. Didn't you have that shit for like 6 months too? I remember when he sold it he said you were gonna rebuild it anyways... I garuntee from that impact the timing chain didn't skip and it's a non interference motor the piston shouldn't hit the valves regardless.

If it ran before that why would i have to change all that out? You just said it was a damaged motor. I never said I was going to rebuild it I was just trying to get my project car running. Also Ive only had the engine like 3 months... The whole project sat for 2 months... Also all he told me it needed was the new front cover and valve cover... So thats all I did... well also all the missing sensors and had to change the dizzy which was put in at tdc of cyl 1.

I told you it was damaged and that you should inspect it before you do anything you said you where going to ka-t it and that you where going to rebuild it for the ka-t so i was like whatever. There was damage from the accident but you saw all if it and it wouldn't make the number two cyl. just blow. You said the timing chain just skipped a few teeth? how the fuck did that happen without someone messing with it?

cfinch
10-10-2006, 01:57 AM
Dude you have got to be kidding me... How can you even say it skipped teeth... Just cause the car ran after the accident doesn't mean everything was perfect. You knew exactly what was visably wrong with the motor and still bought it. Anyone who had a clue what they were doing would have pulled it all apart and replaced needed parts. Not just go oh this is cracked replace it and not look underneath it. I still stand by the fact that it's impossible for it to be a few teeth off. The valves did not hit the top of the piston and it has been a long ass time.

Josh,

Call me, as us arguing over a silly $300.00 engine over the internet looks dumb. Everyone here just seems like we're jumping the gun. We're both grown adults and I dont know who this cfinch guy is (i know he's your friend but this deal was between you and I. So "we" will come to a resolution together...

New number is 556-4991 - anytime before 10am or after 7pm....

Regardless of dollar amount I just don't wan't people to think Josh sold a bum ass motor cause you didn't know any better than to take the proper precautions prior to installing it knowing that there were issues. Then to claim he sold you a motor a few teeth off on the chain is bs... I'm basicly pointing out what I feel is bs... Doesn't matter whether I'm friends with Josh or not. If he screwed someone and I thought so I would tell him to pay up but I just think this is stupid. I mean if you had a legit reason for why the motor is bad and it was Josh's fault then I would be backing you up and not him.
