I was just going to throw some springs on my car just to get it lowered so I could start saving to move to California. When I started working on my car I found out very quickly that the struts are blown. Anyway...I said fuck it lets just get coilovers. Which is where I am today...installation. (seems like it was a good idea cause when i got the rear struts out I noticed there was a nice dent on the passenger side one)
So far I have the rears only on. I am waiting for my tires and rims to come from the local tire place so I can do the fronts in an hour or so.
These are the track coilovers. 12k in the front and 10k in the rear.
Installation on the rears was very easy. In order to get the rears mounted I put the bottom bolt in first then i raised the a-arm with a jack to line up the top mount. After I tightend the top then I tightend the bottom and lowered the jack. Done. Will be following up later today with fronts and intial driving impressions.

Ok...installed. Not bad. Not anywhere near as harsh as I thought they would have been. The fronts went together as easy as the rears.
They are still a little high for me though. In the next few weeks after they break in I am going to drop them a half inch in the rear and a full inch in the front. Plus I am going to play with the front camber settings.
I intially drove the car with it on the 1 setting which is the harshest...definatly bouncy. I have since moved the rears to 12 and the fronts to 15. So far not bad. Maybe i will soften it more before Nopi next month.
I will report in a week after I have driven it more.

this coilovers are a full way adjustable. you just gotta make sure that you will set up the springs with -+(0) load. unlike the ordinary coilovers that you compress the springs to make it lowered. you need to adjust the ride height on the buttom coils to make it shorter and low.
i hope you understand what i'm saying. the more load you put on the springs the higher rating it goes... hence, it will be bouncy when driving.
also, do not put the dampers on full soft. at least full soft and one click +hard.

Yeah I understand...they have no preload on them now at all. I may not even touch the rear now. Not sure yet...but that front has to come down more...too much wheel gap. But I am impressed so far....smooth ride as long as there are not too many bumps.

So here we are a few days later....I have turned the fronts to 23 and the rears are at 17 I like the ride a little better. The car handles great. I have lowered the front almost another inch or so....still want it a little lower though. I also have adjusted the front camber.
The next time I mess with it I am dropping the rear about a half inch as well.
I will have a long term report after I drive it to NOPI next month.

I never did go to nopi. But it has been almost a year since I put them on. Still great. I am getting new wheels put on in the next few weeks (18s) so i know that is going to make a huge difference in how the car rides. But i will report soon.

I just installed these coilovers prior to attending the VD006 event. For the price, its honestly unbeatable. If there were two coilovers one would look w/ a sub-$1k price tag, it should be this and Stance.
On full soft settings, the car rides very normal, as if all you had were lowering springs and stretched tires on wheels, leaving it still very stiff, but on full-rock-cock-hard settings, it is ridiculously stiff. I flat spotted my front tires just barely from the event and now when I drive on em' on full stiff, I can feel every imperfection on the tire, but on full soft its much less noticeable, thats the only way I think of to put clearly state the difference between the dampening ranges.
If you plan to buy one, Ebay has them for cheap @ $900 shipped, or Stance, I think cfinch sells them or I think even Spring Mtn. Auto Body stocks them, this I am unsure though.
But yeah, definitely worth the money. Don't get scared of the 12/10kg wooha-wooha people put out, its really not that bad. It's nice on full soft. It only becomes a brick when you get close to the full stiff range which is like 25-30 (or is it 1-5?).
If you need a new shock-strut system, get this or Stance. I'm sure you won't regret it.
Just remember, dont get that crappy red ones which are the street version or whatever.
Go with the track ones, they're colored silver/purple-ish.

It's 1-5. 32 is softest, 1 is stiffest.

My Megan Racing "Street" coilovers worked just fine on my hatch at the event at 8k/6k. Buy whichever one you feel comfortable with, as they are not crappy.

please define "worked just fine" for me. to my knowledge stock suspension works just fine.
meh, whatever

I wouldn't recommend the track ones... The street ones are plenty stiff and you don't need super stiff coils to drift... I prefer the softer suspension myself. I wish stances came with slightly softer springs.

Just remember, take into account what kind of tires/rims youre using. if you're set on using stretched out tires making the sidewalls stiffer than usual, then watch which spring rates you use. Otherwise, its should not be too bad of a ride on the softest settings.
Def. +1 to the Megan Coilovers, if you're thinking about buying it or Stance, you do not have to hesitate.

I had these coilovers on my daily for a while and the only reason i ran then was because i got them for free threw a deal. I personally think that they are a waste of money for a "track" coilover.

ya, i prefer softer as well, and would tend to agree with finch. streed is probably a better choice than track spec. stiffer doesn't always mean better.

I prefer the street coils... The spring rates are just way over kill... I still prefer alil softer than the 8k/6k combo but I think thats a really good number for the car if it's got full interior and shit. On fully gutted s13 with an sr I loved my jics cause they were just softer... It's just not the same running a stiffer spring and trying to compensate by softening the shock. You need the rebound to transition and you need grip in some places. The track megans are just way overkill... I recommend megans to anyone on a budget tho!

yeah, these do sound like a good deal since i have to agree with what devin said in some other thread i cant find. most people just want it to look better with less body roll and decent ride quality.

On the topic of Coils... cfinch, how do you feel about the K-sport 7k/5k coilovers, or does anyone else have any experience with these? Or is there another recommended budget 7k/5k spring setup or is going with the Megan 8k/6k the best(safe, reliable, bang for buck) way to go for a first set of coils?

well lets look at this guys how much do megan coils cost? 900 why not just save the extra few hundred and get stances? ksports are how much? when we are talking about a few hundred dollars why don't people wait that extra pay check and get the better shit?

And the lightest Stance spring set is?
Kurai Shimo

lightest or softest? i believe softest spring set is 8k/6k
