View Full Version : Clutch Master Cylinder Question...

Does anyone know if a 300zx clutch master cylinder would fit the s13? Well, it's actually an s14 pedal, but ive heard theyre interchangeable. I assumed that the 300zx clutch master would just bolt right up since it looks to be exactly the same as the s13 master. But after I looked at it again carefully, it seems a bit short. Like when the clutch pedal is fully up (up as in towards the driver when it's installed), the part of the master that connects to the clutch pedal doesn't reach!! It only reaches about halfway, so the clutch when fully released would be floating in the middle of it's path. It's a bit awkward, cuz when it's out the pedal would be pushed back and forth from one end to the other by the spring and never just stay in the middle. Plus, i looked at Luis's pedal and the master extends all the way to the clutch pedal even when the pedal is fully released, with the clutch button pressed in and everything (the button on the clutch pedal assembly).

So my question is, would I have to buy a real s13 master cylinder? And how much would they approximately be?

Another thing, my pedal is an s14 pedal, which came with some sort of spacer, like a guide for the two studs that would extend about 1/3 past the studs. My car already has that spacer, which i originally thought I had to cut off to make the master cylinder fit, but i just recently found that it's there to keep the pedal leveled. So i cut off the spacer that came with the s14 pedal (which was welded onto the pedal, i had to drill it out) to make it like the s13 pedal (which doesnt have any spacer on it). I just finished doing that when i found that the master cylinder is too short. It could be either that the master cylinder is too short, or that i in fact have to cut off that spacer in my car... I'm leaning towards the master cylinder being the wrong size... could I be wrong? SOMEONE help me please!!

Sorry if this is so long and complicated hahah

thats a good question! i too would sure like to find out LOL
but anyways...since i am getting all the stuff for my clutch as well...
Nismo sells the clutch slave cylinder for S13/S14 for $190, you can interchange the Nismo with a Z32...for like less than $50...and the Z32 and Nismo are the same Slave cylinder except, Nismo is painted black...just my $0.02

good luck on your clutch pedal...i never heard of all that cutting and spacers, then again i am mechanically stupid

Haha nevermind!! Just figured it out. The stud that sticks out on the master cylinder that connects to the clutch pedal is ALOT longer on the 240sx master than on the 300zx master. After much comparing between pictures, I finaly came to this conclusions. WHEW so good thing u guys wouldnt have to read that big ol essay i wrote up there! lol

Thanks for all the help dudes!

hahah hey man just to let you know, the Nismo slave and master cylinder wont do you any good unless you have a better than stock clutch, pressure plate, all that good stuff lol. I just stick with the stock junkyard parts. My aftermarket is autozone, just because the parts from there are new haha. And yea, u can use an s14 clutch pedal in your s13, and vice versa. Except ur s14 pedal might come with a spacer welded on to make it fit into the s14 chassis. Thats a PITA to get out haha. And to use an s13 pedal in an s14 u would need that spacer... or so i think lol

so was the 300ZX clutch master able to work? so would that be an upgrade for modifying our clutch system? i plan on ordering the Z32 slave this week...and possibly the Z32 clutch master...if its a direct bolt on

BTW. i have an S14 if that matters...and yea i am ordering parts that are better than stock.

Im assuming you're doing a 5 spd swap also? If you are, then I would suggest u get a clutch pedal from an s14, since thats what u have. Cause the s13 pedal would need some sort of spacer to make it fit into the s14. But if you're not doing a 5 spd swap then just forget what i just said haha.

And no I'm sure the z32 clutch master wouldnt fit with s13s or s14s. The part of the master that connects to the pedal (the stud sticking out) is too short, and if u connect it it would make your clutch pedal floating in the middle. It has the exact same specs as the s14/s14 master, just a different size stud. So it wouldn't be a performance mod or anything, so don't upgrade to the z32 master.

As for the slave I'm not exactly sure, but I think it would fit. You would have to check on that. But as far as clutch system parts go, putting any z32 clutch parts in your car wouldnt exactly be an upgrade, because like I said, the specs are pretty much the same as our cars. I would just get parts speficially for the s14 if I was you, to ensure a direct bolt-on fit.

really! well imma do a lil more research on that, thanks for the advice...
as for my car it's a 95 S14...and it's a 5 speed already...

as for my clutch/drive train upgrade: i purchsed an ACT extreme 6 puck clutch with pressure plate, Fidanza Lightened flywheel, Project nissan Stainless steel braided clutch line...

after the event in march i will order:
the Z32 clutch slave (since i was told it's the same as the Nismo version for 240's)
B&M short shifter, Nismo transmission mount, and last the Clutch Master.

as you can see, i have everything lined up and all highly above stock except the clutch master, and thats the last i need to do more research on..so thats why i am looking for a clutch master above stock specs.

I don't plan on installing all this until April...so i am getting things one at a time slowly

Dgramps01,

You put the flywheel in your car already?

I'm thinking about getting one. Not sure though I hear positives and negatives about having lightweight flywheel.
