Check Engine Light Comes On?

just bought a 240 and it kinda boggs out when i start it....it hesitates real hard. when im driving the check engine light comes on then maybe about 10-15 min later it shuts off...whats the deal? i was thinking that the o2 sensor is messed up cause the car does spill white smoke once in awhile. but other then that its fine after the car starts up.

could it be one of these?

low bettery?
alternator?
o2 sensor?

i had the battery and starter tested and they turned out to be fine just that the batter is kinda low. :righton:

Do something very very simple. Go to an auto parts store and either get some carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Take off you MAF and spray some on the hotwire. Be careful. Dont want to break it. Let it dry. Put it back in and drive it. See if that helps. Usually it does. Also...according to Jim Wolf Technology, even if the O2 goes completely bad it still will not affect drivebility. Anyone else have any ideas?

first off lets change the battery on that 89, its probably a good idea to do that before you run out of juice in the middle of vegas under 110+ degrees of heat. second, do what jamie here says and clean up the o2 sensor, the MAF is the black (or is it silver on the s13?) thing before the BOX thing of the air intake. do u remember what the guy with the 300$ 240sx was doing with this car to start it up? Do that with the throttle cleaner. Hopefully it will help with the engine light going on and off. All u have to worry about is passing the SMOG check, and hey even if you dont, that BG guy u bought the car from has "hook ups" for a $50 dollar always pass smog check. :lol: Which you have to make friends with for us so we can get the same shit hah.

haha fa sho thanks alot for the help...imma work on my car tommarow..the BG guy wasnt home so i couldnt pick up the manuel and what not but ill call him back maybe tommarow and see whats up....


UPDATE: i got the chiltons manuel for the 89-92 240sx and stanza also 200sx if anyone needs it hit me up and ill lone it to you.
