got a question for those of you who have done a clutch job. wheres the best place to unbolt the driveshaft from? from where the tranny meets? at the differential? or at the connecting point of the 2 driveshafts? tried unbolting it from where it meets at the tranny and those bolts are on really tight. any tips/pointers would help, thanks.

to get the driveshaft off there are 4 bolts where the drive shaft meets the differential that need to come off. Theres also a brace where the 2 driveshafts meet that needs to come off. The brace is only held up with 2 bolts.... take off those 2 bolts and slide that baby out of the tranny.... All it takes is a little muscle to get those bolts off. Just give em a little tough love. BTW if u need help with the clutch swap, i can help ya. only takes about an hour with 2 people and the right tools

The bolts might not be that tight, its just that its hard to keep the "Propeller Shaft" from spinning while working on the bolts. I stick a long pry bar in the universal joint, hold that with one hand, and use a wrench with a pipe on it, and bam. You either loosen the bolt or hit yourself in the face.

Only like two of the tranny bolts are tough to get, the top two. It helps to have at least a foot or more of extensions and a swivle.
What year are you working on?

ahhh...an 89
I would change the rear oil seal on the trans while you have it out. You can get it at Checker for like $5.00-10.
If the Flywheel is burnt spend the $30-50 and have it turned. I don't reccomend it but if you are short on cash/time and the flywheel looks ok AT LEAST sand it down a bit by hand.
Have you removed the shifter yet....I hate that dang snap ring...no more for me since I have the OBX shifter
There should be 7 tranny bolts & 2 Starter bolts
What clutch you puttin in?
It easy to refill the trans by pouring the fluid in the shifter hole. 2.4 Liters / 5-1/8 pints
Let me know if you have any other questions.
